He was born in Lewes.He was living at 99 High St. Lewes with his daughter Eliza,shopwoman, unmarried aged 20, born in Lewes; and his sonWilliam, Journeyman Gardener, unmarried aged 18, born in Lewes.They had a house servant Sophia Court.In the 1861 census at 76 High St (ex 145) William now 57, stilla widower, was a Fruiterer employing 1 man and 1 boy. Eliza wasstill there, unmarried aged 30, working in her father's shop.Sophia was now described as "Housekeeper".
